How to use the date calculator

  1. Days between: pick a start and end date. The result shows total days, weeks + days, and months + days.
  2. Add/subtract days: pick a start date, enter a number of days, choose the direction — the result is the exact calendar date with its weekday.

Where this gets used constantly

Deadlines and legal windows: "respond within 30 days" means a real calendar date — miscounting a month boundary is how deadlines get missed. Travel and bookings: nights between check-in and check-out, visa-free day limits, return windows for online orders. Projects: how many days from kickoff to launch, and what weekday it lands on. Personal: days until a holiday, an anniversary, or a baby's due date.

How the counting works

The calculator counts actual calendar days — not approximations like 30-day months. February has 29 days in leap years, and the tool handles that automatically. The main "days between" figure is a pure difference: from January 1 to January 10 is 9 days (the number of nights in between). If you're counting inclusively for a booking ("including both the first and last day"), add one.

The months + days breakdown counts full calendar months first, then leftover days — the same convention used for ages and rental periods. Because months have different lengths, "1 month" from January 31 rolls to the end of February rather than March 3; the calculator follows the calendar, not a fixed 30-day rule.

Calendar days vs. business days

This tool counts calendar days — weekends included. "Within 30 days" almost always means calendar days unless the contract says otherwise. When a deadline is given in business days, the math is different: 10 business days is two calendar weeks, and public holidays stretch it further depending on the country. If a deadline matters, read the fine print for which convention applies — and when in doubt, deliver before the earlier of the two interpretations.

Frequently asked questions

How is the number of days between two dates calculated?

By counting full calendar days between the two dates, correctly handling months of different lengths and leap years. The difference shown is the number of nights you'd sleep between them — from January 1 to January 10 is 9 days.

Does the count include the start and end dates?

The main number excludes the start date (a pure difference). If you need an inclusive count for a rental or booking, add 1.

How do I add or subtract days from a date?

Use the second calculator: pick a start date, enter a number of days, choose Add or Subtract. The result is the exact calendar date, weekday included.

Are leap years handled?

Yes — the calculator counts real calendar days, so February 29 in leap years is counted correctly.

Is my data private?
